OSCAR RAMIREZ

Was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, where his musical journey began at the age of 11. Now, as a 3rd year trumpet student at University of North Carolina School of the Arts, he is honing his craft under the guidance of Professor David Dash. Oscar also receives mentorship from Elmer Churampi, esteemed trumpet player of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and also a wide variety of master classes with renowned trumpet players such as Phill Smith, Ronald Romm, Chris Coletti, Nathan Warner, Nadje Noordhuis, Adam Rapa among others.

Oscar's musical prowess extends beyond the classroom. He holds an esteemed position as an honorary member of the Costa Rican Trumpet Academy and has served as the conductor of the Colegio Catolico San Pablo Band in Guatemala, C.A. Additionally, he has showcased his talents as a Trumpet Player in a Philharmonic Band in Guatemala, He is also current member of ArtistCorp UNCSA, teaching trumpet in schools around the Winston-Salem area.

His achievements on the international stage are equally impressive. Oscar has graced the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Guatemala as Principal Trumpet and has performed at the prestigious National Theater of Costa Rica with the Costa Rican trumpet ensemble, captivating audiences with his skill and passion.

Oscar is making history as the first Guatemalan trumpet player to pursue a Bachelor of Music in trumpet performance in the US. His dedication has earned him recognition, including admission, and a fellowship at the Miami Music Festival, Full Scholarship at Rafael Mendez Brass Institute in summer 2023, Apex Trumpet Symposium 2024 He also was part of the National Trumpet Competition live rounds with the UNCSA Trumpet Ensemble in 2024, He will also attend the live round in the 2025 edition of the National Trumpet Competition.
